Vaniartha Vaniartha, aka Vania, was born and raised in Jakarta, Indonesia. She moved to Vancouver for university, where she completed her BSc in Natural Resources Conservation from the University of British Columbia’s Faculty of Forestry.
Throughout her degree, she worked as a research assistant for several labs at UBC focusing on projects ranging from behavioural sustainability to connectivity modelling. She gained experience in marine and freshwater conservation by working on the International Union for Conservation of Nature Red List of Threatened Species assessments for priority syngnathid species at Project Seahorse, hosted at UBC’s Institute for the Oceans and Fisheries. She has also been involved in several youth organizations, where she got to explore her other interests in land-based education, urban planning, and climate justice.
She is excited to be involved in the Sea Around Us marine catch reconstruction project. In her free time, she enjoys solving jigsaw puzzles and sudoku, playing board games with friends, and bugging her relatives for cat photos.
