Keanna Burns – Research Assistant

Keanna Burns

Keanna completed her B.Sc. in Marine Biology and Sustainability at Dalhousie University in 2020. In 2019, she worked in Indonesia for six months alongside Canadian and Indonesian youth on environmental sustainability initiatives through the Ottawa-based international development project, EQWIP HUBs.

Keanna’s love for the ocean started in her childhood with her summers spent admiring the creatures of the rocky shores of Mayne Island in British Columbia. Growing up, she fell in love with Rachel Carson’s novels, especially The Edge of the Sea.

Through her studies, she grew interested in the complexity of global fisheries science and marine management. She is thrilled to join the Sea Around Us team and research global fisheries!

In her free time, she enjoys yoga, hiking, and scuba diving, as well as cooking new seafood recipes and traveling to new places.
