Dr. Md. Azizul Bari obtained his Ph.D. in Environment and Development (2016) from the National University of Malaysia. His educational background includes an MBA (2008) and a BBA (2005) in Finance and Banking from the University of Rajshahi, Bangladesh. With a strong interest in data science, he successfully completed a Tableau Desktop certification course in 2021. Azizul was awarded the esteemed “Pan Asia Risk Reduction Fellowship” offered by START, USA and carried out collaborative research between the National University of Malaysia, START and University of Philippines Los Baños. Under this fellowship, he received training on disaster risk reduction strategies and digital governance for local resilience in Asia-Pacific countries.
He served as Subject Matter Expert under the Climate Change Impact and Adaptation Task Force of the Academy of Sciences Malaysia. The goal of this role was to examine the National Agenda on Water Sector Transformation for 2040’s road map and compile a report with recommendations. Previously, he supported the review editor of Chapter 7 of the IPCC Special Report on “Managing the Hazards of Extreme Events and Disasters to Promote Climate Change Adaptation” by conducting desk-based research. Azizul’s research interests encompass climate vulnerability, climate change adaptation and mitigation, sustainable development, and disaster resilience city. His scholarly contributions in the interdisciplinary field of research are significant (h-index = 6).
Azizul is thrilled to be a volunteer at the Sea Around Us team so that he can contribute to the innovative mission of Sea Around Us and acquire a deeper understanding of fisheries-related data through working together with a highly experienced team of researchers.
Azizul hails from Bangladesh and currently resides in British Columbia, Canada. In his spare time, he likes to watch movies, hang out with friends, and listen to music.
