Milan Saini was born and raised in Punjab, India, and moved to Canada in 2016.
As of 2025, Milan is finishing the last year of her bachelor’s in animal biology at the University of British Columbia’s Faculty of Land and Food Systems.
After spending a summer at the Bamfield Marine Sciences Centre, she realized she wanted to pursue a marine biology and conservation career. Later on, after taking an elective course on the ins and outs of the aquaculture industry, she decided she wanted to learn more about fisheries. Thus, she joined the Sea Around Us to conduct directed studies focused on updating the reconstruction of India’s marine fisheries catches.
With her mentor, Ben Niemann, Milan is also working on a project studying the gut microbiome of rainbow trout.
When it comes to hobbies, Milan loves travelling, hiking, doing water sports and experimenting with Italian cuisine.
