Fisheries of the Azores (Portugal), 1982-1999

Catch statistics are presented for the Azores Islands (Portugal) by type of fishery. These data were compared with the official ICES statistics (STATLANT) for the years 1982-1999. This represents the time period for which detailed catch statistics have been collected in the Azores. For each fishery, the proportion of underreported catch is estimated. The fisheries in the Azores are dominated by tuna landings, although several demersal and deep-water species are also targeted. The latter have increased in importance in recent years.
